An Indianapolis based startup company providing advice and coordinating care for senior citizens and their families, My Health Care Manager has assisted over 250 families since its inception. CEO Alan Stanford founded My Health Care Manager after experiencing the many challenges of caring for elderly parents and in-laws. While the company does not provide health care services in the traditional sense, it does help clients navigate the complexities of the health-care system. The company’s nurses and social workers partner with clients to help clarify issues and evaluate options in order to secure the most appropriate care. Available services include reviewing a client’s insurance coverage, assisting with enrollment in a Medicare prescription drug plan, providing access to My Health Care Manager’s Internet-based health record service, and assisting care givers with every aspect of arranging for their loved ones’ needs.

Milestone Advisors has worked with My Health Care Manager since the company’s inception. Both Stanford and Milestone Managing Director Tom Gabbert previously worked with Scott Jones at Escient Technologies, and Stanford has introduced Gabbert to a number of other start-up companies since then. “When I created My Health Care Manager, I knew we didn’t need a full-time CFO or even a full-time accountant, so I immediately outsourced our accounting to Milestone Advisors. I worked with Tom Gabbert who organized our financial information and presentations to our stakeholders.”

While My Health Care Manager started out using QuickBooks, they soon made the move to a more robust, integrated enterprise system. With that change, the company needed weekly accounting assistance and began working with Milestone Advisors’ Julie Long. “We are delighted with Julie,” says Stanford. “She comes in once a week, augmenting our internal resources and handling our month end reconciliations.” Gabbert continues to work with My Health Care Manager as well. According to Stanford, “Tom helps us in the CFO role. He has developed a complex financial model that forecasts future periods and posts actual results. This adds a new dimension of usefulness.” Together, Tom Gabbert and Julie Long handle the financial functions of My Health Care Manager, allowing Stanford and his team to focus on their core responsibilities – taking care of their clients and growing their business.
